I knew my wife (Monica) would never let me do this. Monica is a dentist and travels to remote villages in Alaska to do dentistry. I waited until she left and then bought several pounds of ginger. I was a little nervous, so I scheduled a blood test immediately before the experiment in order to establish a baseline reading. I also scheduled an appointment to get my blood taken 4 days into the experiment.
But, I didn’t bother to get the results right away. My thought was this “Who am I kidding? This isn’t going to do anything.” 14 days later (drinking 1 cup of ginger ground into tea 2x / day), I noticed I was getting bruises all over my body. I checked my blood work. After three days of this, my platelet levels had gone from 235 to 89. I tested my platelets that nite. Now, they were at 4.
My hematologist freaked. He was basically sure I had cancer. He called right away. He said “you don’t need to get in the car right now, but you need to leave tomorrow AM. I’ve scheduled you for a bone marrow biopsy tomorrow afternoon.” He left out the part saying “and we’ll start chemo on Friday”, but I could tell he was thinking it.
